It's nice to meet you.
I'm Sarah Shannon, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist offering online therapy throughout Tennessee and Mississippi. With more than 10 years of experience, I support people through the complexities of being human. I believe there's something meaningful about having a space where you can slow down, turn inward, and explore what's happening in your life without judgment.
I'm also certified in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C), with specialized training and knowledge in supporting individuals and families through the emotional challenges of pregnancy, postpartum, and the transition into parenthood.
My hope is to create a space where you feel comfortable exploring your experiences, being curious, and discovering what matters to you.

Who I Work Best With

I connect especially well with thoughtful, self-reflective people who care deeply about their relationships and are willing to look honestly at themselves, stay curious through discomfort, and make room for their own needs alongside the needs of others. Some of the areas we might explore together include:
Anxiety & People-Pleasing
Overthinking, self-doubt, perfectionism, self-esteem, and learning to trust yourself.
Trauma & Nervous System Support
Processing past experiences, understanding emotional responses, and exploring patterns that may leave you feeling stuck.
Grief & Loss
Navigating loss, complicated emotions, pregnancy loss, and pregnancy after loss.
Pregnancy & Postpartum
Perinatal mental health, identity shifts, postpartum adjustment, and the transition into parenthood.
Relationships & Family Dynamics
Communication, boundaries, conflict, family-of-origin patterns, and understanding your needs within relationships.
Depression & Life Transitions
Navigating emotional challenges, changing roles, and periods of uncertainty.
While much of my work is with women, I welcome adults of all genders and sexualities who are curious about understanding themselves more deeply.

My Approach to Therapy
I see therapy as a collaborative space to explore your inner world without judgment. My background in Marriage and Family Therapy helps me consider how your relationships, family experiences, and environment shape the way you understand yourself and navigate life.
I draw from Internal Family Systems (IFS), Polyvagal Theory, ACT, CBT, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Sand Tray, adapting our work to your individual needs. I also offer Brainspotting as a distinct approach for deeper emotional and trauma processing, particularly when experiences feel difficult to work through with words alone.

A Personal Connection to This Work
Some of the experiences that shape my work are professional, and others are personal.
I've known love, loss, and the complexity of being human. I've also experienced pregnancy loss and pregnancy after loss, experiences that have deepened my understanding of how isolating and emotionally complicated this season can be.
I know there isn't always a clear way to make sense of grief, uncertainty, or the emotions that come with experiences we never expected to have. Sometimes what helps most is having someone who can sit alongside you, make room for the complexity, and not ask you to move through it any faster than you're ready.
I bring both my clinical training and my humanity into this work. It's something I deeply value, and I feel honored to be invited into these parts of people's lives.
